BADMINTON COMMENTS.

R€CENT HANDICAP EVENTS. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIPS. By winning the handicap doubles from scratch, and defeating Martin and Rishworth decisively in the final, E. W. Griffiths and J. Southon have clearly established themselves as Auckland's strongest pair at badminton this season. The men's handicap singles have now been reduced to three players, E. W. Griffiths meeting C. Ellett, and the winner playing I. Ellett in the final. In the combined handicap event E. W. Griffiths and Miss M. Waters meet A. C. Jacob and Miss Ruth Taylor in the final. There was some fine play in the concluding rounds of this event, D. G. Macfarlane and Miss L. Roberton producing particularly good form to defeat E. J. Rish worth and Miss Rarnsay. Miss L. Roberton's splendid net play was a feature of this match, and Macfarlane gave h 6*" good support from the back of the Court. The losers failed to change a losing game and were outplayed in the concluding stages. In the ladies' handi cap singles Miss P. Miller scored a popu lar win from a difficult mark, while Misses P. Frankham and D. Newton were successful in the ladies' handicap event. Interest will now turn to the New Zealand championships, which will be held at Wellington on September, 10, 11 ' and 12, Auckland will be strongly represented by G. Martin, JE. J. Rishworth, E. "W. Griffiths and Miss J. Ramsay. It is unfortunate that Miss Ellett, whose plav \ Was outstanding at the Auckland championships, cannot make the trip. The annua] meeiing of the New Zealand Association will be held in Welling- / ton during the championships and matters of considerable importance to the game are likely to be discussed.
