CHARGE OF ARSON.
TAILOR BEFORE COURT.
" INTENDS TO PLEAD GUILTY."
HERNE BAY FLATS FIRE
Charged in the Police Court yesterday with wilfully setting fire to residential flats at 37, Sentinel Road, Heme Bay, thereby committing arson, Charles Vernon, aged 53, tailor, was remanded for a week at the request of the police. In asking for bail, I\lr. Burns, who appeared for Vernon, said he understood that the police would oppose it, but accused intended to plead guilty and in the meantime wanted to put his affairs in order.
"We certainly do oppose bail," said Detective-Sergeant Kelly. "Some of the people in the flat might have been burned to death." "Arson is one of the most serious offences I know of," said the magistrate, Mr. F. Iv. Hunt, in refusing bail. "Accused will have every opportunity of adjusting his affairs while he is in custody."
