CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
DEVELOPING CROWN LAND
[FROM OUR, OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TAURANGA, Tuesday.
The Tauranga Chamber of Commerce last evening received a letter from the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands, stating there were no abandoned farms in the Bay of Plenty district which were suitable for inclusion for development under the Unemployment Board's scheme No- 4C. In fact, there were very few abandoned Crown sections in the area. Mr. F. W. Keam urged that tho unemployed should be placed at work on blocks of Government land, for if this were dono the development of the land would create a national asset.
A motion was adopted supporting the action of the Auckland Education Board in the matter of seeking legislation in regard to the power to dismiss married women school teachers.
No action was taken in respect of the resolution of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce urging the formation of a National Government. The meeting rejected a motion to tlio effect that the number of members of the House of Representatives be reduced to, say, 50.
