WHANGAREI HARBOUR.

SMALLER TRADE IN JULY. [from our own correspondent.] WHANGAREI, Friday. The Whangarei Harbour Board yesterday considered the question of metalling the branch road from the main Whanga-ruru-Russell Road to the Whangaruru Wharf. The engineer's recommendation that representations be made to the district- engineer, Public Works Department, Whangarei, urging that the work be done ■was adopted. The main WhangaruruRussell Road is metalled, and the length of the wharf road is approximately one and a-half miles. ... The statement of trade and shipping for July showed that imports totalled 1550 tons, against 3053. tons in July, 1930. Exports totalled 7854 tons, against 12,845 tons. Prior to ordinary business at the board s meeting, the chairman, Mr. J. A. Finlay6on, moved a vote of condolence with the relatives of Mr. William A. M. Bain, Mr. William / Andrew Carruth and Mr. Harry Weaver, whose deaths occurred during the present week. Mr. Bain was a member of/the Harbour Board, representing the County of Whangarei, during 1911-14; Mr. Carruth had been solicitor to the board continuously since 1882; and Mr. Weaver represented the borough on the board from 1908 to 1912, being chair/'man daring 1911-12. The motion was carried in silence.
