"GWEN" TO ROYAL FAMILY

PRINCESS MARGARET'S ARRIVAL DOORWAY IN A WALL. Miss Evans, the Duchess of York's housekeeper, who retired from the Royal service less than a year ago, is again to occupy the housekeeper's room at 145, Piccadilly. She is emerging from her retirement temporarily to take the place of her successor, who has had to relinquish her duties on account of illness. " Gwen," as she is affectionately known to members of the Royal family, will find many changes in her old home. With the arrival of Princess Margaret and the departure of the Duke's secretarial staff to offices in Grosvenor Crescent, the Duchess of York was able to put in hand alterations to her home which she had long contemplated. Two rooms on the ground floor formerly occupied as offices have now been converted into one large room, which the Duke uses as his study. The windows overlook the garden, so that from his writing table the Duke can see his children at play. A doorway has been made in the intervening wall to allow access to the sftudy by way of the large morning room, which until recently served as the Duke's study.
