MODIFIED PROTECTION.

Sir, —Mr. Bull's letter in Monday's paper would " darken counsel with words." The issues are clear. II protection is good then let it be increased, for the increase of goods will, without fail, bring us prosperity in every way. If on the other hand protection is evil then it is a disease that brings its own suffering. The motives through which it was born may have been well intentioned, but surely we can now see to where it is leading us. To say that modified protection is good is to say that a little evil is good, but m the law of progress there can be no standing still. E. W. Eocltox.
