The Canterbury Jockey Club's Grand National Meeting will be continued at Riccarton to-day, when the leading event will be the Grand National ifurdles. Strong fields are again engaged and the racing should be mat as interesting as on the first day. when there were some good contests. Our racing reporter telegraphed- from Cliristchurch last evening that the north' westerly gale which »wept Christchurch in the morning moderated in the afternoon and the weather in the evening was fine and clear with every piosnect of continuing. The following are likely to be well supported:— Hunt Cup.—Taramoa, King's Counsel. Pangolin. Woolston Handicap.—Knollmere, Sleipner. Moorbird. Beaufort Steeplechase.—Dark Prince, Pari3. Bon Aryan. DARGAYILLE RACING CLUB. MEETING AT AVONDALE. FIXTURE FOR OCTOBER. frsr telegraph.—own correspondent.] DARGAVILLE. Tuesday. The annual meeting of the Dargavillo Racing Club was held last evening, about 00 members being present. . Mr. R. W. Cuthbert. the president, stated in his report that the club bad suffered a loss of £374. to which had to be added £436 for depreciation. He considered the result was satisfactory in view of the fact that almost every racing club in the Dominion had finished up on the wrong side of the ledger. Many clubs much smaller than Dargaville had suffered larger losses. The total assets of the club over liabilities amounted to £3151. . , The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Rt. Hon. An endeavour will be made next race season to hold races so that tho Whangarei, Dargaville and probably tho Bay of Islands will work in together. An endeavour had been made some years ago to bring this about, but it was not successful owing to the Dargaville course not being suitable to race on about the date of the Whangarei spring meeting. IE the Avondale meeting is successful, the club will be able tc complete drainage \\ork already started and enable it to race at all> season of the year. TRAINING AT T£ AWAMUTU. BIDDY'S BOY SPRINTS FAST. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT. ] TE AWAMUTU. Tuesday. The tracks at Te Awamutu are in good condition and the course was available lor fast work this morning. How ever, few horses were asked to gallop and most of them were allotted pace work on hopped away smartly from the four-furlongs peg and ran home ill 5-3.. Ha travelled well _ throughout and his eiioit was very pleasing. . , Motere ran his first furlong in 14s and completed Eve in 1.9. He was not doing his b Biddy's Boy was going better than Taurua it the end of four furlongs m 60s-—the best gallop of the morning. Biddy s Boy., who looks particularly well, IS a brilliant galloper and should be a fine sprinter thia Be £fimeen jumped away ahead of Aspian at the seven-furlongs post and maintained htr lead throughout, to run the distance m 1.38. Aspian appeared to be loafing and may &o better when kept up to his work. The Illumination—Kiki gelding in G. Paul's stable hit out in good style over live furlongs in 1.9, tho last two Imioriffs occuPs Te K Hoia finished well to beat Red Lion over five furlongs in 1.6. Te Hoia, who is usually a lazy worker, went well and is in great heart at present. ~ . King's Knave and Kmgsway ran tlwr first tvrv furlongs in 26s and got to the end of four furlongs in 51s. King s Knave was going the stronger at the finish. Teels was going comfortably alongside Llanfylan at the end of half a nule in S4s. Teels has furnished into a fine-looking three-year-old and should do well this season. With, A. McGregor in the saddle, Mr. P. A Swney's St. Amans gelding, m company with Te Homai (R. Smith), siave a dashing display over sis hurdles. The St. A mans gelding has had his progress hindered bv a severe cold, but ib now working with all his former dash.
