PROPOSAL FOR FUSION.
i Discussion' at whangarei. [FEOJI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WHANGAREI, Saturday.' Iho Whangarei Chamber of Commerce iast evening discussed the proposal of fusion between the Government and the Beform Party. There was a motion by Mr. R. Allen,,, that, owing to the present economic depression, earnest consideration should be given to the proposal. Mr. • Allen said that, by the amalgamation of the two parties, it would be possible to carry on without an election for another two years, and thus save approximately =-75,000, the ostimated cost of a general election. Mr. D. J. Finlayson expressed the opinion that such a procedure would be ; .quite undemocratic and unconstitutional, find that Parliament had no power from ne people to delay an election after November. -air. H. Crawford held that it would unwise on the part of the chamber to pass a resoluli&n, as he considered the People could express an opinion on election day as to their feelings. ■ Mr. Allen's motion was lost, only the ®Joyer and seconder, Mr. S. Morrison, s.°ttng in favour.
