THE WRITERS' CLUB.

A particularly interesting meeting of the Writers' Club was- held last week, when Mr. Kealy gave an entertaining address on "Best Sellers of the Past Forty Years," to a large gathering of members and friends. Mrs. I. M. Cluett presided and introduced the speaker as a true lover of books, particularly well qualified to speak on (his subject. ' Mr. Kealy gave an interesting survey of those books which had enjoyed their run of popularity in past years, mentioning many old-time favourites written by such authors as Hall Caine, Du Maurier, Sarah Grant, Thomas Hardy, Stanley Weyman, Marie Corelii and many others who were best sellers in their day. Coming down to our own times, he mentioned among other writers Galsworthy, 11. G. Wells, Mary Wcbbe, J. B. Priestly, Arnold Bennett and Edgar Wallace. The speaker also made reference to some local successes in regard to good sales of books written by two members of the Writer*' Club. Mr. Kealy's talk, which was full of the most delightful literary references and reminiscences, was keenly enjoyed by all present and an interesting discussion on books followed.

The proceedings closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the speaker and the serving of afternoon tea.
