KIRIKOPUNI RAILWAY.
EFFORTS FOR COMPLETION.
SUPPORT AT WHANGAREI. [from our own correspondent.] WHANGAREI, Tuesday. The Whangarei Borough Council last evening passed the following resolution: — "That, this council -supports the Dargaville Borough Council and the Whangarei Harbour Board in their efforts to effect the completion of the Dargaville-. Kirikopbni railway, and that the Mayor Mr. W. Jones, be delegated to interview the Railways Board if necessary." . Several members strongly stressed the claims of Dargaville and district for the completion of the line. It was pointed out that all formation works to the boundary of the borough of Dargaville were completed, and it was uneconomic to hold up the completion of the line. One speaker pointed out the difficulties settlers in that district had to contend with in getting stock to the railway. The Dargaville district was one of the 'most fertile dairying districts in the North. There were tens of thousands of acres of first-class land suitable for dairying, and the future of the district was most encouraging. TOUR BY THE BOARD. VISIT TO THE NORTH. The general manager of railways, Mr. n. H. Sterling, arrived in Auckland yesterday morning and spent the day on departmental business. The southern members of the Railways Board, Colonel J. J. Esson, chairman, the Hon. E. Newman, Mr. D. Reese and Mr. G. W. Reid, will arrive in Auckland- this morning. They will bo joined by Sir James Gunson and Mr. Sterling and will leave later on the Opua express. After inspecting two northern railway works they will return to Auckland on Friday, leaving the same evening for Wellington.
