CONSUMPTION OF POWER.

STEADY INCREASE SHOWN.

AUCKLAND PROVINCE READINGS. [from our own correspondent.l Hamilton, Tuesday. The consumption of electrical current in the power board districts in the Auckland Province is steadily increasing. Readings taken recently throughout the district show that the number of units which passed through tho transformer stations in tho Thames Valley, Waitemata, Central, Cambridge, Waitomo, Bay of Plenty, Te Awamutu and Franklin Power Board areas is .92 in excess of tho number recorded for tho corresponding period last year. The summer readings also show a corresponding increase in the quantity of power consumed. Since the new 15,000kilowatt station was put into operation by the Auckland Power Board at King s Wharf a few weeks ago, the Public Works Department has drawn from the Auckland Board for a small quantity of current. The amount will be increased as the new dairying season advances. Power from Auckland will be needed until the Arapuni station is again in operation. Tho 1500-kilowatt steam plant, which was removed by the department from Waihi and installed at Huntly, is working satisfactorily and is enabling the Central Power Board to supply the Waikato Coal. Carbonisation Company's works at Rotowaro with tho power required.
