WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Happy Valley.—Part of a lecture on " Diet and Nutrition " was read by Mrs. TS. Ogle at the monthly meeting, the remainder of which will be read next month. Mrs. J. Wooster gave a demonstration of rug-making with raw wool. The roll call was a humorous anecdote. Mrs. Baker and Mrs. E. J. Ogle were hostesses.
Maungaturolo.—At the monthly meeting, held last week, Mrs. x'Vriell showed how to cure sheepskins for use afterwards as rugs. A song by Miss H. Campbell ancl a competition won by Mrs. Ilidhng were enjoyed. Afternoon tea was served by the,members, and community singing brought the afternoon to a closi-. Okaihau.—At the Okaihau institute meeting it was resolved to hold a special meeting during the month to cutout and remake garments for .needy families in Auckland under the care of the City Mission. Some interesting demonstrations by Mrs. Lock, Mrs. <Blundell and Mrs. Park were given. Mrs. Lock's boxes, bowls and vases were very artistically decorated. Mrs. Blundeil showed bowls made from old gramophone records, and Mrs. Park a fire-screen, embroidered with raffia. Mesdames Rowsell, Mullaney, Lock and Miss .Madge Sturgo were hostesses for tho afternoon.
Titirangi.—The Titirangi Women's Institute met recently when a talk on "Life in Turkey" by Miss Symons was very much enjoyed. Miss Lewis gave a paper on the opera " Carmen," with gramophone records. Members handed in garments for the Auckland Hospital Auxiliary. The hostesses were Mrs. Booth and Miss Pegler. Waitakaruru.—At an open meeting of the Waitakaruru Women's Institute the appeal for left-off clothing for Sister Esther was well responded to, a large collection being received. Mr. J. S. Laing, of Sydney, gave an enlightening address on the psychology of health. Mrs. McClune gave a lesson on woolwork and displayed various articles she had made. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Clover, Donaldson, Dick and Burling.
Waiuku.—At tlio monthly meeting of the Waiuku Institute, Mrs. Teape, who has been president and actively associated with the branch since its inception, presided for the last time prior to leaving the district. Mrs. Teape was after wards the guest at a farewell given in her honour. Mrs. Muir, on behalf of the members, presented her with a posy of violets and a brass dinner gong, suitably inscribed. The programme consisted of items given by Mrs. Knight, Miss Lillian Robinson and Miss Shepherd. Afternoon tea brought a very pleasant afternoon to a close.
