GARDENING CIRCLE.
A very pleasant afternoon was arranged by Mrs. Howard, convener of the Gardening Circle of the Lyceum Club, when a large number of members of the circle met in the lounge of the club yesterday. Mrs. Howard rear! a most interesting letter from Mrs. Tattersfield, who is at present in Europe, giving an account' of her experiences on the Continent. A short musical programmo suitable to the occasion was rendered, and was much appreciated. Mrs. R. S. Whitley sang " A Garden Is a Lovesome Thing," " It Is Only a Tiny Garden," " Betty's Garden '' and " The Woodpecker." Mrs. Hobday sang "Bring Me Red Roses," " Happy Song," " Roses " and " Dead Mountain Flowers." The accompaniments were played by Miss Kent. Mrs. Howard recited " Tho Glory of the Garden " by Rudyard Kipling and afterward gave an interesting talk, on the pleasures of amateur gardening. A display of (lowers was made by the members, which included a bowl of lovely white and mauve hellebore, and real English snowdrops, brought by Mrs. Howard; some beautiful anemones and stocks, brought by Mrs. Stubbs; lachenalia and ncmesia, from Mrs. Macmorran; boronia, and a native rock lily (renga renga), from Mrs,' Clinchj; a basket of early spring flowers, from Mrs. Hewlett; a bowl of protea, from Mrs. Kinnear; a rare rockery plant (Ralanchoe Somalionsis), from Mrs. Douglas; a lovely basket of rose pink camellias and maidenhair fern from Mrs. Brookes; and a Japanese prunus, from Mrs. ~Astley. Afternoon tea was afterward served in the dining room.
