MENACE TO TRAFFIC.

MILK SUPPLIERS' COWS. HERD ON ROAD AT NIGHT. Tim danger caused to motorists by stock being driven along roads late at night was again stressed at a meeting of the Manukau County Council yesterday. The traffic inspector reported that 52 cows were driven over three-quarters of a mile of tho Ilowick-Panmure main highway nightly at 10.45, returning at 2.30 a.m At such late hours, the inspector added, the herd presented a serious menace to traffic. The owners of the cows conducted a city milk supply. It was resolved to urge the Government to take some steps to minimise the danger, and to approach the Auckland Automobile Association in the matter. A suggestion was made that the stock drivers should carry lights at the front and rear of the herd.
