BRITAIN BEATS AMERICA. FRENCH TEAM ' SELECTED. PARIS. July 13. Britain defeated America in the interWne .final of the Davis Cup contest today. Britain won three matches to two, and will now meet France, the holder of the cop. In the singles to-dny Austin (Britain) beat Shields, B—6, '6-3, 7—5, and Perry (Britain) beat Wood, 6 —3, B—lo,8 —10, M, 6—3. .Tile been excitement culminated in intense delight at the victory. Perry outmanoeuvred Wood. His play sparkled fcitb good strokes and hard cross-court *%es. In the third set Wood completely J°st form, and Perry went all out.
Austin and Shields displayed fine tenB ' s - The Englishman confidently met his "Pponent's fireworks, attaining his toptoost form and winning with '-a blaze of wil f liant strokes amid a terrific din of apPlatise.
The French team in the final will be V°chet, Bontra, Brugnon, with Boussus l! emergency. Cochet and Borotra will Probably play in the singles, and Cochet Brugnon in the doubles.
