BOXING.
AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS.
The 1931 Auckland provincial amateur championships which will be staged by the Northern Boxing Association at the Town Hall next Monday and Tuesday evening should be of great interest to enthusiasts, as competition will bo extraordinarily keen this year. Boxers from country districts have stated their intention of competing in the tourney, and local boxers will, have to look to their laurels. M ist gymnasiums have been hives of industry during the past fortnight and no effort is being spared by the various trainers to get their charges into the best possible condition for. the championships. The amateur standard, Judging by preliminary performances this season, is higher than usual, and, as some past champions are making a return to the ring this year, some fine boxing should; be seen. Entries for the tournament .close with the secretary. Mr. J.'H. Watts, Exchange Lane,? Queen Street, to-morrow, at 5 p.m.
