' While thfcfmajority of competitors have still to arrive from Trentham, J. T. Morris, of Marlon, is already on the scene with Nightmarand </iu Jazz, and S. Cleaver, of Waverley. with Day Lass. The success of Nightmare "at Trentham' prevents her from starting in the Rangiotu Plate. The outside of the course proper was open for fast work this morning. Royal Black (W. Brougllton) strode over seven furlongs, the last sis furlongs in 1.29'2-5.

Moutoa Treasury fMetcalf) ran .a mile in 2.3 3-5. She did not stride out as freely as usual. ,
Park-Acre (Boyd)'ba-d a slight advantage over Decree Nisi, (Chisholm) and Patearoa (lisht boy), with. Jean Ladosio (Bell), and Manawatu (Metcalfj further back at the close ;Of five furlong's. Jean Ladcsio was the early leader, being joined by Patearoa crossing the top," but Park Acre and Decree Nisi finished more strongly. Desert Lad (Gordon), showed the way "to Gambler (A. E. Stratton) and Brown Abbey (Robinson) on the flat on a round over the battens, but was apt to prop at his fences. Hiß companions closed on him crossing the .top, but Desert Lad again drew clear in the run home. Gambler cast a shoe before setting oft and then burst his surcingle on the round itself '
Evening Hero (Robinson) and Spearmiss (Chrystall) were companions over a round. The faster jumping of Evening Hero saw him gain the advantage at every fence and at the close he was well clear. Merry Damon and Merry Melody, both of whom raced at Trentham on Wednesday, were restricted to easy tasks. Nightmare and Jiu Jazz were given pace work on the Band.
Blacksmith, who scored an overdue success in the Ladies' Bracelet at Hastings, has been sent to Gisborne to run in the hurdle races there. Although he has had little experience in the role. Blacksmith jumps fust. ; ■ • " Sporting Change, who was recently operated upon, is back ill the active ranks looking very well. . However, he will not be asked to race at the local meeting. Pahu and Kilorell were sent to the Trentham sales, but on the road resulted in Pahu failing to arrive in time, while the lorry containing Kilorell reached the sale-ring just as the sale was concluding. Consequently neither changed hands. S. Watson has been engaged in educating a rising three-year-old filly by Colossus— Projecting nnd a rising two-year-old by Lackhnm—Bon Marche, and little has been see.n of him on the tracks for some time past.
