UNEMPLOYMENT ASSURANCE.
Sir—No one can help supporting Mr. Hutchinson's wonderful scheme. I trust, however, every effort will be made to employ the non-manual workers who are having a very bad time now. Perhaps they could be appointed as inspectors, organisers, secretaries of committees, and be allowed to work out the numerous details of this scheme. Now let us hope the pay will work out at least £1 10s per week for single men, and £2 10s for the married. It might be necessary to increase the taxation, as to provide for 50,000 on this basis would take £5,000,000. Still, it will bo good and nocessary work and the taxpayers should not object when they get free labour in return for their taxation. Run on careful business-like lines, I don't see how it could fail. It means everyone works for the benefits ho receives and that is ideal. Syntax.
