WINTER EXHIBITION.

KENNEL CLUB SHOW OPENED.

FINE EXAMPLES OF BREEDS. RECORD IN COLLIE CLASSES. The principal attraction" at tho Auckland Winter Exhibition yesterday was tho opening of the dog show conducted by tho Auckland Kennel Club in conjunction with tho exhibition executive. The exhibition was again well patronised yesterday, when many parlies of school children were eager visitors. Among these were 60 children from tho Hawko's Buy earthquake area, who are being cared for at the Motuihi Island camp by the Community Sunshine Association. Tho first section of the dog show, which opened yesterday, comprised all breeds except Alsatians, terriers and tog dogs, which will be shown to-morrow in place of the present exhibits. Entries in the collie classes constituted a record for an Auckland show, and tho standard was high. The bulldogs were also outstanding as regards botli numbers and quality, while the sporting breeds, retrievers, pointers and' setters, were of a uniformly good standard, the Irish setters in particular being commended. " . The spaniel classes were the weakest of any bleed, although several good dogs were on show. For the first time for many years a Great Dano was exhibited, this animal being a young imported dog of good quality. Another breed '.comparatively rare in New Zealand, the French bulldog, was also represented. Details of the awards were as follows: — Bough-coated Collies.—Dogs—Puppy under G months: W. H. Already users, of this product are more than satisfied with results as the Carbonettes are clean, have a very high heating value, and are much moie economical than ordinary fuel.- Ample supplies arc available for factories and for all purposes where fuel is re quired. Full particulars may be obtained from the company's head office. Southern Cross Buildings, Chancery Street, Auckland. Telephone 41-666. ENTERPRISING EPSOM FIRM. MR. V. BAKER'S FINE DISPLAY. Local enterprise is always pleasing nnd, when it combines the use of New Zealand raw materials and the production of goods the quality of which is not excelled by importations, it warrants t.ho fullest support from the public. Three years ago Mr. V. Baker started manufacturing in the corner of a small shed. To-day he controls a big staff of efficient workmen at Epsom and manufactures a wide range of leather goods. Ladies' handbags of all descriptions, repairable slippers, guaranteed waterproof leather coats and patent helmets for molor-cvclists are only some of the articles handled. Mr. Baker has also developed a large connection for his boot and shoe repair department, operating on a collect and deliver basis. \ isitors to the show should not fail to.inspect his exhibit of leather goods.
