UNIVERSITY TENNIS.

CAMBRIDGE DEFEATS OXFORD [from our own correspondent.] LONDON, June 9. Cambridge University defeated Oxford University at lawn tennis on June 6 by 14 matches to 2. The New Zealander C. E. Malfroy, beat R. K. Tinkler (Repton and Balliol), 6—3, 6—l, in the singles, but was himself defeated by E. M. Buzzard (Charterhouse and Magdalen), 7—9, 3—6. In the doubles Gandar Dower and Malfroy beat Buzzard and Tinkler, 3—6, B—6, 6—3. The Times makes the following remarks: Two unfortunate decisions when Malfroy led 5—5 in the first set helped, but Buzzard added unusual skill off the ground to his known armoury of strokes at the net and overhead and won, 9—7, 6—3. Iv. G. Gandar Dower and C. E. Malfroy beat Buzzard and R. K. Tinkler by two sets to one in an exciting match that was anyone's until Gcindar Dower put fresh* heart into himself and his partner with an incredible volley when they led 3—l in the final set.
