BROWN SHIELD MATCH.
GOOD RECORD OF HOLDERS. « By defeating North Auckland by four goals to two at Hamilton ou Saturday, South Auckland retained tho Brown Shield for tho seventh season in succession. Since the, holders won tho trophy from Poverty Bay in 1926, they have successfully withstood challenges from North' Auckland, four times, Mawko's Bay, twice, and Manawatu, Poverty Bay and Wanganui, once each. Tho shield, which is valued at £SO, was presented for competition as far back as 1891, and for many years was competed f&r in annual tournaments in the four main centres. In 1926 the handsome trophy donated by tho English Football Association replaced tho Brown Shield as the premier trophy of the Dominion in Association football and the shield was allocated to tho minor associations.
