DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION.
VISIT TO AUCKLAND.
MEETING WITH BOARDS.
Aa official visit is being paid to the Auckland education district by Mr. T. B. Strong, Director of Education, and Mr. A. J. H. Bongo, secretary of the Education Department, who arrived at Auckland on Saturday. This week the director will discuss matters, with local education bodies and will leave for Rotorua on Saturday.
The director and Mr. Benge will proceed to Ruawai to-day and will make investigations regarding the extension of the consolidated scheme which has been in operation there for some time. Visits will also be paid to oLher districts where it' is thought that consolidation can be effected with economy. *
On Wednesday Mr. Strong will discuss with tho board of managers of the Elam School of Art the question of providing temporary accommodation for the school. The present building is regarded as unsafe from an earthquake point of view. The director will discuss departmental mutters with the Auckland Education Board. " At Waihi inquiry will be made regarding the provision of a new school to replace the district high school, which was destroyed by fire. There is a proposal to secure a more central site and - to establish a school of similar type to tho Matamata Junior High School.
