NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS

MATCH WITH YORKSHIRE.

GOOD FIRST INNINGS LEAD.

COUNTY DISMISSED FOR 189.

VISITORS' SECOND INNINGS.

By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Special to N.Z. Press Association.),, (Received July 11. 1.15 a.m.) HARROGATE. July 10. The cricket match between New Zealand and Yorkshire, in which the visitors yesterday had made 303 for eight wickets and declared, and tho county had made 169 for nine wickets, was continued this morning in fine weather.

At the luncheon interval the county team had been disposed of for 189, and the New Zealanders, in their second innings, had lost three wickets for 65. Play was resumed yesterday after luncheon- in wintry weather. The wicket, favoured the bowlers. New Zealand added 56 for the loss of four wickets in an hour, before Lowry declared the innings closed. Page and Merritt batted vigorously. The other batsmen were troubled by Verity's epinners. Yorkshire went in and was soon in difficulties. Mitchell snicked a ball behind the wickets . and ran out of the crease and James whipped off the bails. Lowry set a leg trap for Holmes, who swung at a short ball, and Weir took a fine running catch at deep square leg. After Oldroyd's dismissal, the . New Zealand bowlers failed to make full use of the advantage of a deceptive high wind which was blowing..

The attack was inconsistent. At one stage it appeared that Yorkshire would not avert the. follow-on, but. inaccurate bowling presented Greenwood and Wood with golden opportunities for scoring. Leyland and Barber were dismissed by fine catches by Lowry and Talbot respectively. A sound, fighting innings by Wood unquestionably saved Yorkshire. Merritt and Allcott were frequently dangerous, but his erratic length spoiled Merritt's effectiveness. New Zealand did well to dismiss nine batsmen cheaply, but they might easily have done better. When play was resumed to-day the last Yorkshire wicket yielded 20. Wood was dropped by Dempster off Merritt —the seeond ball of the day—but eventually the batsman was caught in the slips. New Zealand's second innings opened badly, three wickets being down for 65 at the luncheon interval. Details of the scores are as follows:
