Dr. Kathleen Todcl and Miss Moira Todd have returned to Auckland from a visit to New Plymouth. Mrs. £. F. Shirley, of Remuera, is yisiting Wanganui. where she is the guest of Mrs. F. Webb Jones. Mrs. E. Bryant, of To Awamutu, is visiting Auckland and is the guest of Mrs. IX M. Rodgers, of Epsom Avenue.

Mrs. Vivian Riddiford, who has been the guest of her mother, Mrs. Thorne George, St. Stephen's Avenue, Parnell, returned this week to Lower Hutt.

Miss Jill Saunders {Auckland) has been playing on tour in " When Knights were Bold,'"' states our London correspondent. It is expected that she will shortly appear in a ilew play in London.

Miss Joan Robertson,' of Parnell, who has been spending the past year visiting relations in Scotland, arrived in Wellington by the Rangitata yesterday afternoon. She will return to Auckland this morning.

Recent activities of the Women's Luncheon Club included a luncheon at which a talk on India was given. A social evening for the members and their friends was also held, when a very cheery evening was spent with competitions and musical items.

Mrs. Holmes, who has for five years been living in Arundel, Sussex, is hoping to return to New Zealand next year and to make her headquarters at New Plymouth. Shei has many friends in Auckland and in the north generally who will be interested to hoar of her plans. ,

Miss Sylvia Gosse and Miss Dorothea Sharp have been successful in winning the silver medal and bronze medal, respectively, offered for the first time at the spring exhibition of the Royal Society of British Artists, states a London writer. Miss Nance Holloway (Epsom) and Miss M. Bowell (Parnell) disembarked from the Cathay at Marseilles, and travelled to England via Southern France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Belgium, writes our London correspondent on June 4. The Onelmnga W.C.T.U. held a mothers' meeting on Thursday. Vocal duets were given by Mesdames Pilkington and Kelsall. recitations by Miss -Lisa Evan and Mrs.. Lilly, the Mter also singing ' Mrs. Bissett gave a character sketch of two women; of outstanding character she liaf met in hei travels, one in South Africa and one in 'Australia.

A very enjoyable concert was given at the Evelyn Firth Red Cross Home, Parnell, bv the members of the Tin Glee Club. 'Several part songs and choruses were rendm-nd by the choir under the conductorship of Mr. Gordon Carder, and songs and elocutionary items were given bv Mesdarhes Black, Massicks, R._h. Matthews, E. Penny and Messrs. Duncan and Grace. Mrs. Grace and Mr. R. Collins wore accompanists.

Miss A". W. Whitelaw (formerly of Auckland) has . been appointed the new head of Talbot Settlement, Camberwell. She will take up her duties in January next writes our London correspondent on June 4. Miss Whitelaw, a former headmistress* of Wycombe Abbey School, is well known in educational circles in England and in New Zealand. She has had a wide experience and is a renowned organiser.

• The weekly concert arranged by Mrs. Baeburn and Mr. A. Hamblin was given jn ward 26. of the Auckland Hospital on Wednesday. A most enjoyable programme was provided by a concert party from the Flying Angel Mission to Seamen, organised by the Rev. H. 11. Viekery. The following resolution concerning unemployed women was passed at a meeting'of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom held last evening;—" That (his meeting protests against the decision of. the Government to use the fund collected by the levy; on women solely for men l? aud urges that*it be spent in providing unemployed women and, girls with sustenance;" Mrs. E. Gibson , reported progress on ' the campaign for signat •urn' -for" i the' 1 tyorld Disarmament Petition.' Excfel'ent results were being obtained-in New Zealand. Mrs. M. u. Soljak reviewed the work in connection with unemployment among women and girls and stressed the urgent need for securing work as against private chanty. It was decided to persist in the endeavour to secure Government recognition of the schemes formulated for the solution 01 lie problem.
