REDUCTION IN WAGES.

OTAHUHU BOROUGH STAFF.

DECISION OF COUNCIL,

A reduction of 5 per rent, in salaries and wages of the Otahuhu Borough Council staff, other than the municipal quarry employees, in whose case a 10 per cent, reduction in wages was proposed, was recommended in a report submitted to the council last evening by the Legal and Finance Committee. The report stated the full 10 per cent, cut was recommended in the case of quarry employees, as the quarry was run on a competitive basis. Mr. F. W. Grey said lie considered a serious error was being made. He moved that the report be referred back to tho committee for further consideration. The Mayor, Mr. H. T. Clements, said they should stand by the report, which had been accepted by tho couucil in-com-mittec.

Mr. B. J. Parsons seconded tho motion, which was lost by five votes to four. A further motion by Mr. Grey that the council discuss the matter in open council was defeated by a. similar vote. Subsequently Mr. Grey gave notico of motion to have the matter discussed at the next meeting.
