W. Hawthorne has schooled The Warden since his arrival at Trentham and he has shaped well. battlement as hurdler.

LONG SPELL FROM RACING.

Tho Martian gelding Battlement, of whom great thing 3 were once expected, is now in work at Hastings and is being tried as a hurdler. He is reported to be giving encouraging displays, and perhaps he will make amends in this department, iiattlement was bred by the late Mr. J. L 4. Buchanan, of Kinloch, and is a brother to Tho Cypher. He was foaled in 1923, so he iB not beyond an age to prevent him winning raceH as a juniper. As a thrcc-year-<)ld he finished second to Footfall in the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton, nnd in the following season he ran second to bir Roy in the Otaio Plate, third to Set Snil and Ark Royal in the Tescheinoker Handicap at Timaru. and third in tho Auckland Cup to Rapier and Count Cayour. This was the high-water mark of his flat-racing career, as in five starts in tho following season he was unplaced. He lias not raced since the Waipukurau Easter meeting ill 1929. Battlement is duo to reappear ih public as a hurdler at the Napier Park meeting this month and it will bo interesting to sco how ho shapes. TARANAKI hunt club. DISPOSAL OF PROPERTY. The Tarnnnki Hunt Club, in common with other Bporting bodies, has been feeling tho pinch of present conditions, and at a mooting on Monday tho committee was authorised to dispose of tho Kennels property to the second mortgagee, or, if satisfactory lerins could not bo arranged, to dispose of it nH it considered best. The programme for the annual race meotinfe in August Was discussed and it was decided to reduce tho stakes from £B3O to £O3O.
