The anin.al meeting of ratepayers was held last evening, when His Worship the Mayor, Mr. W. C. E. George, presented the aunual report and balance-sheet of the Huntly Borough Council.
The report showed that the total rate levied for the year was one halfpenny less than the previous year. The amount of rates collected was 95 per cent., against 94 per cent, for the previous year. rates had been written off during the last two.years, The total revenue- had increased from approximately £II.OOO in 1929 to £14.350 in 1931. The elevation of.the town district to the status of . a borpugh was marked as one of thd most- important events in the history of Huntly. The change in status was created at very Tittle expense. Advantage had been taken of the No. 5 scheme to relieve unemployment in the borough. It was hoped to have two playing grounds completed bv next season. The council had given considerable thought to the water supply question, and it intended to consider a motion at its next meeting to apply for the sanction of the Loans Board to raise a loan of £20,000 for this purpose. The yesrr was commenced .with a credit balance ol' £Bl4 and was concluded with a credit of J-T726. A vote of thanks was carried at the meeting expressing appreciation of the good work done by the. Mayor and the members of the council.
