NATIONAL PARK.

SALT MEMORIAL HUT. USE FOR THE FIRST TIME. Tho Salt Memorial Hut, which is being erected in the Tongariro National Park on Upper Scoria Flat, Mount Ruapehu, at an altitude of 58Q0ft., is now completed except for a few inside fittings. On Tuesday it was used by ski-ing parties for the first time.

Mr. and Sirs. N. Templer and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Champtaloup, of Auckland, accompanied by Mr. and Miss Cobbe, of tho Chateau, visited tho ski-ing ground and had luncheon in tho hut. A motor road has been constructed from the Chateau for over one and a-quarter miles up Mount Ruapehu, and when consolidated this will allow of motor traffic within one and a-lialf miles of the new hut.

This road will be a great convenience for tourists visiting the National Park, and will enable hundreds of visitors to enjoy sport in the snow. ■
