ROTORUA.
At the invitation of the retiring president, Mr. 0. H. Coleman, Rotarians and their wives were entertained at a most enjoyable social evening in the Druids' Hall on Friday. Arranged artistically in the hall were large stands of holly berries and foliage. The guests were received by Mr. and Mrs. Coleman, the latter wearing a frock of black ninon, with a wrap of peach embossed georgette. An enjoyable musical programme was arranged by Mr. Painton, each number of which was enthusiastically recalled. The opening number was "March Indomitable" by the Majestic Quintette, followed by selections from the "Desert. Song." Other contributions were: Songs by Mr. Thomas, Mrs. 11. Griffiths, Mr. Meredith, Miss Casey; further selections from the Majestic Quintette; violin solos by Miss Grace Cameron-Johnston and Mr. Painton; and somo orchestral numbers. Mr. H. Norris was the accompanist. At the close of the evening Mr. J. H. Ruddle, president for the ensuing year, proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Coleman for their hospitality that evening. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. .T. H. Buddie, Mr. and Mrs. G. Urquhart, Mr, and Mrs. E. La Trobe Hill, Mr. and Mrs. R. Griffiths, Mr. and Mrs. Kelly, Dr. Bertram, Mr. and Mrs. ,T. Roberts. Dr. and Mrs, S. H. Hay, Mr. and Mrs. Hardie. Mr. Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. Rowlands, Mr. and Mrs. Painton, Mr. and Mrs. Gardner, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Clinkard, Mr. and Mrs. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. French. Mr. and Airs. J. McDowell, Mr. and Mrs. Nelson, Rev. and Mrs. Randerson, Mr. and Mrs. Meredith, Miss Cameron-Johnston, Miss Casey, and Miss Louisson. Woman's Club. On Thursday evening the literary circle of the Rotorua Women's Club held their reading at the residence of Mrs. J. D. Davys. The play selected for the evening was " The Barretts of Winpolo Street," by Rudolf Bersier, this being the love-story of Elizabeth Barrett and Robert, Browning. The readers included Mrs. N. Keane, Mrs. Walsh. Mrs. H. 11. Davis, Mrs. Randerson. , Mrs. Stewart, Mrs. J. D. Davys and Miss Joan Hodgson.
