TEACHERS' SUPERANNUATION.

gj rj X observed in. the Herald of June 13 a paragraph about the teachers superannuation fund. It all sounded a sorry state of affairs, apparently through breach of faith on the part of the State. But I also noticed, not for the first time, a sort of grievance about teachers who did not contribute to the fund before retirement. Some of the younger teachers may not know, but older ones must have forgotten, that on Januaiy 1, 1906, every teacher in New Zealand had his or her pay raised by more than the contribution to the fund amounted to, the Governmert practically making them a present of the levy as much as to the retiring teachers. I know, for I had it for a short time. At that time 60 and 65 were the retiring ages. In the course of nature there cannot be many to burden the fund after 25 years. One of the Old Brigade.
