ATTRACTING TOURISTS.
A DOMINION EFFORT. NEW TRAVEL ASSOCIATION. FORMATION AT WELLINGTON. In an effort to develop further tlie tourist traffic of tlie Dominion it was decided at an informal conforence in Wellington last week to form a Now Zealand Travel Association to assist t lio Government in its endeavours to encourage oversea visitors. The policy of tho association was drafted and a provisional executive was set up, representative of shipping, accommodation, motor transport, sporting and general busicess interests. Mr. A. P. Harper was appointed chairman, and Mr. G. M. Fowlds, secretary. A further mooting, to which tho newlyappointed committee will report, is to bo held within tho next three months. In the meantime stops are being taken to enrol members and obtain further financial support. The objects of tho association are:— (1) To urge and assist the Government to advertise adequately overseas the scenic and health resources of tho Dominion. (2) To press for the efficient equipment and operation of tho State tourist, resorts and Government railways; tho improvement of the national highways; the conservation of scenery, and tho preservation of historic sites. (3) To co-ordinate the sorvices of the various sections engaged in catering for the wants of the travelling public and to promote co-operation with the State liailway, Tourist and Publicity Departments. (4) To observe conditions of travel throughout the Dominion and suggest nocessary improvements. (5) To scrutiniso proposed legislation and to uso every means for tho redress of grievances. (6) To educate official circles and public opinion to tho value of fully exploiting the tourist attractions of tho country.
