SLOT MACHINE RAIDS.
THREE YOUTHS IN COURT. REMANDED FOR SENTENCE. A series of charges of damaging stamp machines and slot telephones, and stealing the contents, was admitted by three youths, Albert James Clark, aged 19, farm hand; Frederick Joseph Naden, aged 22, baker; and Leonard Jame's Montrose Stanaway, aged 18, carter, in the Police Court yesterday before Mr. F K. Hunt, S.M. A fourth vouth arrested will appear in the Children's Court. Naden also admitted stealing three rugs, valued at £1 each. Mr. Noole appeared for Clark and Naden and Mr. Terry appeared for Stanaway. Detective-Sergeant Kelly said that Naden admitted stealing the rugs from motor-curs in the city. Since the arrest of the four' youths there had been no further thefts reported, and there was no doubt that the three before the Court, and the fourth youth, were responsible, [t was estimated that £6 4s 8d was stolen from stamp machines, which were damaged to the extent of £3 6s sd, and that £6 was stolen from slot telephones, which were damaged to the extent of £SO 10s 7d. The accused had used a motorcar and two motor-cycles at various times when they went about by night stealing from the machines. Mr. Terry said that Stanaway's case was different from the others. He was the youngest, and although lie. admitted 1 lis share in (Ik; offences, it was attributable to the influence of Naden, liv whom he was employed. The three accused were remanded in custody until Saturday for sentence, pending a report by the probation officer.
