CHEAP MOTOR-CARS.
BIRKETT'S GARAGE FIRE. Cars which were damaged by the fire at Birkett's garage, Thorndon Quay, Wellington, were offered for sale by auction this week. Fifty-seven cars were offered and sold, realising £1589 10s, an average of £27 17s 7d each. Three motor-cycles brought a total return of £lB. Tho highest bid for the day was £125 for a saloon car, and one coupe sold for £IOO. The lowest price paid was £3 10s for a roadster in fair condition. The most interesting incident of the salo was when a roadster of an expensive type was put lip. "I am told that this car is valued at £1850," said the auctioneer, as tho vehicle came 011 to the platform, having climbed the steep ramp on top gear. -"Now, then, how much for this car? "Five shillings," replied a man. Eventually tho car was knocked down for £32 10s.
