Vincent last evening:—The area of high barometric pressure, enclosing a fine-weal her system, is now located over New Zealand. A westerly storm area is apparently developing on the south west Tasman Sea. Expect fair to fine weather generally, with very cold night temperatures and frosts inland, followed by increasing cloudiness, and rain in western districts, accompanied by milder temperatures. Southerly to south-west erly winds, moderate to strong, veering by west to north, then freshening. Seas modorato. Local outlook: l'nir to cloudy, becoming unsettled, and showers follow ing. Morning fog. Barometer, midnight, rising .. 30.55 in. Midnight, Saturday •• 30.351(1. Temperature in shade yesterday (to midnight)— Maximum, 54deg.; Minimum. 42deg. GOVERNMENT REPORT. The Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —An intense anticyclone covers New Zealand, and a slight depression is centred in the western Tasman Sea. Indications are for light to moderate and variable winds, gradually tending northerly. Seas still considerable with a southerly swell south of Last Cape, but otherwise smooth to moderate. Freshening north-easterly to northerly winds and moderate to rather rough seas in the eastern Tasman Sea. The weather will bo fair to fine. Cold night temperatures with many frosts but milder tomorrow. Showers developing to-morrow in parts of Westland and the far south. RAINFALL RECORD.
