EXPLOSION WRECKS DOOR.
USE OF GELIGNITE. WELLINGTON JEWELLERY SHOP. [Br TEI.EGE.VPH.—OWN CORRESPONbENT. ] WELLINGTON. Sunday. With a deafening explosion which startled people in the vicinity, a charge of gelignite shattered the door of Mr. H. J. Freeman's jewellery shop at 13, Manners Street, early on Saturday evening. Mystery surrounds the incident. The explosion occurred at about 8.30, when the street was comparatively quiet, but within a few minutes there was a large crowd outside the premises, including members of the audience of a near by picture theatre. Examination of the door showed that the gelignite had been ignited by a quick time-fuse. The wooden door was completely shattered. Apart from this and minor breakages inside the shop the explosion did no serious damage. None of the jewellery in stock was removed.
