NEW ZEALAND CRICKETERS

MATCH AT CAMBRIDGE. STAND BY UNIVERSITY. ONE WICKET FOR 110 RUNS. STEADY BATTING DISPLAY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Special to N.Z. Press Association.) (Received Juno 5, 1.15 a.m.) LONDON, June 4. 'J ho New Zealand cricketers this morning continued their match against Cambridge University at Cambridge in dull weather, before a poor attendance. When stumps were drawn yesterday the visitors had completed their first innings for 375 runs and Cambridge had lost one wicket for eight runs in their first venture. Lowry is keeping wicket for New Zealand. At the luncheon interval to day the University team had raised their score to 110 without further loss. The hatting of (he New Zealanders yesterday showed considerable improvement, No risks were taken against the steady attack, but runs came steadily. Mills batted attractively, and hit eight fours. After his dismissal foe 59 Weir, Blunt and Allcoft added 106 for tho fourth wicket.

Allcott was unusually restrained, but Blunt showed a return of his best form as foreshadowed in his fine innings at Lord's on the. previous day. He batted 200 minutes for his 120 and hit 11 fours. His late cutting again was brilliant. Kerr batted steadily, but was out leg before for the third time in succession. The remaining batsmen sacrificed their wickets.

The Cambridge bowling was accurate, but lacked variety. Brown, a slow righthand bowler, kept an excellent length and made pace on the wicket. He bowled an occasional googly and required constant watching. Baring and Pelham, fast to medium right-handed bowlers, were also very steady. Cambridge batted only a quarter of an hour. Ratcliffe was dismissed in the final over. When play was resumed to-day Surfleet, who replaced Christopherson, joined the not out man, Kemp-Welch, and a good partnership ensued, both batsmen playing steadily.
