LOYALTY OF SAMOA.
KING'S BIRTHDAY CEREMONY. HONOUR FOR A CHIEF. (Received .Tune J, 5.5 p m.) APIA, June 4. Tho King's Birthday was observed yesterday morning by an official reception at tho Government offices, which was attended by tho Administrator, Mr. If. E. Hart, the Chief Judge, (he Secretary to the Administration, tho Secretary of Native Affairs, the chiefs Mataafa and Malieloa, and also 35 faipules, who, at a kava ceremony, expressed loyalty to tho King. At 10 o'clock a public function was held outside the Government offices, when the Administrator inspected the constabu lary guard of honour. A Royal salute was fired at tho pilot station battery, after which tho Administrator invested Chief Malietoa Tanumafili with the insignia of tho Order of the British Empire.
The Administrator attended the races in the afternoon and gave a ball in the evening at Government House, Vailima.
