DARING THEFT OF CAR.

TAKEN FROM OPEN GARAGE. OWNER NOT DISTURBED. A Haring (.heft of a car was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday morning from the residence of Mr. F. D. Holiday, of 7, Corbett-Scott Avenue, Epsom. Without making any noise, for the occupants of the house were not aroused., the thief removed tho car from the garage, which is at the rear of the dwelling, and drove it down a carriageway, passing within a few feet of bedroom windows. Tho garage doors had not been locked by Mr. Holliday when ho parked the car at 11.30 p.m. on Monday, and there was no means of locking the car itself. Tho theft was made easier by the fact that there is a continuous slope from the garage door down the drive and for a considerable distance along the road. It would not have been found necessary, therefore, to start tho engine until the car was some distance away from the house. Once beforo a car was removed in a similar manner from Mr. Holiday's garage, but in the previous case the car was supplied with a gear lock, and the would-be thieves got no further than tho car would "coast." »

The police have been informed, but no trace of the car had been found up to yesterday. It is an Austin Seven tourer, painted grey and bearing a new registration plate, number 5-004.
