HUSBANDS AND WIVES.
ORDERS TO RETURN MADE.
INTERVENTION OF THE COURT. A number of husbands and wives whose partners have left them asked for the intervention of the Supreme Court yesterday to secure the return of the absent partner. Orders for restitution of conjugal rights were issued by Mr. Justice Herdman and Mr. Justice Smith. A wife whose husband went away shortly after their marriage less than a year ago, Rose Alice Taylor (Mr. Vialoux), sought an order for his return. She stated she was married to Reginald Ernest Taylor on June 18, 1930. He was a bank accountant and went away in pursuance of his business soon after their marriage. His letters to her ceased in October last and later he admitted his silence was due to laziness and not to illness. He had declined to make a home for her. She last heard of him at Greymouth. llis Honor issued an order for his return to petitioner within 28 days. An order to return in 40 days was made in the case of J. W. W. Graham (Mr. Blomficld) against Dulcie M. Graham. Evidence was tendered on affidavit, hut Mr. Justice Smith said he would like, corroborative evidence of the fact that respondent would not return to her husband in Rarotonga. Mr. Blomfield said a fellow-counsel, Mr. Newbery, knew respondent well and could give evidence on that point. Thereupon Mr. Newbery removed his wig and entered the witness box. Orders for the return of respondent to the petitioner within 14 days of the service of the decree were made in the cases of Joseph Alexander Forsyth (Mr. Dickson) against Williamina Forsyth; Herbert Leslie Gould (Mr. Meredith) against Ethel Marion Gould; Stanley Cyril Gillillan (Mr. Towlo) against Rosena Jane Gilfillan; and Arthur John Campbell (Air. Fleming) against Violet Jane Campbell.
