BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH.
MATTERS BEFORE COUNCIL.
The Birkenhead Borough Council met last evening, tho Mayor, Mr. J. P. McPhail, presiding.
It was decided to forward to t!io No. 2 Licensing Authority the views of the Birkdalo Ratepayers' Association, favourable to the application of the Bluo Star Motor Service to curtail the authorised time-table and vary the scale of fares. The council, however, decided not to approve of the curtailment of the service, and to express the opinion that the company should be allowed to reduce fares only between Highbury and Birkdale. Approval was also given of the application of the Waitemata Bus Company to omit five trips on the service between Glenfield Road and Northcolo Wharf. No action was taken in regard to the suggestion of the Director of Town Plan ning that the various local bodies should combine for the purpose of preparing a regional planning scheme. The town clerk reported that a progress payment of £ll6O had been made by the Public Works Department in re spect to tho unemployment loan, 011 account of the £2 for £1 subsidy. The laying out of a spoils area in the reserve bounded by Victoria and Waipa Streets was authorised under the No. 5 unemployment relief scheme. The waterworks engineer reported that 2,405,000 gallons of water were used in tho past month.
