TROTTING NOTES.

TRACK WORK AT EPSOM.

BENEFICE AND WARPLANE. AUTO MACHINE'S STRONG WORK. Fine weather prevailed at Epeom yesterday for training operations). Several horses who will take part at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting this month were given sound work on the cinder track. Benefice (K. Morrison)'- and Warplane (C. Fail-man) ran a mile and a-hnlf in 3.41, a good elTort considering the state of tho going. Both pacers went evenly and there was little between them at the finish. Auto Machine (A. Brown) was given strong work over two miles, without being asked for his best speed. Auto Machine looks a picture and will ho a fit horse when stepped out at the meeting. Explosion (W. Clifton) was geared up and, pacing resolutely throughout a mile and a-half task, registered 3.<15. Explosion appears to have benefited as a result of hi? previous training at the trotting gait. Mr. Penalty (F. J. Smith), having his first run for a fortnight, trotted several circuits at a fair clip. On tho first circuit ho loft his feet, losing a good deal of ground. Gaza (J. Mahoney) was given strong work over two miles and then galloped two circuits. He is in nice order, but will be required to show more stamina in his Auckland engagements. Carl Mack (P. ,T. Smith) trotted faultleEsly over two miles. lie has not been hurried since the Cambridge meeting, but is in good order to undertake more serious business. Mountain Dell (L. Mitchell) was worked over several circuits unhoppled, pacing in approved style. The black main is Quickly coming back to form and will 'be ready for Epsom. Cumin and Jock Bingen, two members of F. <T. Smith's team, have been treated to physic and will be given a few days' epell before being asked for serious work in view of their Epsom engagements. Carliui has now Qualified for the better class mile and a-half events at the Auckland fixture. AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB. ENTRIES CLOSE ON FRIDAY. Nominations for the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting on June 20 and 22 close fit 5 p.m. on Friday with the secretary, Mr. A. G. Mabee. Entries for the Great Northern Trotting Derby, 1932, are due at the same time. S. M. AUGUST'S TEAM. REMAINING AT MANGERE. The trotting trainer S. M. August has decided to remain at Mangere, instead of transferring to Henderson. He will have ITal Chimes, June Nordica and Valloden to represent him at the coming F.psom meeting. Valloden had his first race on New Zealand soil at Claudelands on Saturday nnd while his display did not savour of solidness, it is probable that the state of tho going did not suit him. Both Valloden nnd Derby Vale, who came from Australia with him, were turned- out in fine order. Derby Vale, small of stature, but robust, shaped pleasingly in the Newstead Handicap. MIGNONNE LEASED. MAY RACE THIS MONTH. H. McXaughton, who at one stage of last season owned and trained Camui, has leased the pacer Mignonne from Mr. E. J. 1 ftrkes and tho mare will prohnbly race in her new colours at the Auckland winter meeting this month: Mignonne, who was only put out of work after the Waikato meeting on May 16, was in splendid condition, having received a Bound preparation during ♦he eeason at the hands of L. McMahon. The short respite should not prove detrimental to her prospects if required for the Epsom fixture and with handicaps to suit her over various distances her new owner should be able to place her advantageously. GOLDEN PEDRO IN WORK. NEWCOMER FROM AUSTRALIA. The Australian pacer Golden Pedro, who recently arrived in Auckland to the order of the .Addington owner-trainer, W. J. Tomkinson, is now in work rl Otahuhu under the care of E. S. Groat, r.i preparation for the Auckland "Winter Meeting. Golden Tcdro is a good type of horse and has won several events in Australia. Groat states that ho has a record of 3.22 for a mile and a-half, but until details of his performances come to hand it will not bo known what mark ho was on when accomplishing the feat.

However, lie is on the 12yds. mark in the 2.1G mile race, and while the field contains Rome very capable sprinters, he should have a good chance. Dillon Logan has raced consistently and well over all distances this season,'and ho possesses a rare turn of speed. TROTTING FIXTURES. Juno fi—Canterbury Park Trot)ins: Club.
