WOMEN'S INSTITUTES.
Netherton. —A sewing circlo was started at the last meeting of the institute, and a lesson in basket weaving was also given. The hostesses were Mesdamcs J. Walker and F. Epps.
Matangi.—At a meeting of the Matangi Institute, Mrs. Hodgson was appointed secretary in the place of Mrs. L. Judd, who recently resigned. A lesson in rugmaking was given by Mrs. Marychurch, and Mrs. Riddle, of Gordonton, gave a demonstration of rose-pruning. Mrs. Sainsbury showed how paper roses were made. Mrs. and Miss Boyd were in charge of the market table, and the hostesses were Mesdames McKenzie, Smith and Neilson.
Pongoroa.—At a meeting of the Pongoroa Institute matters in connection with the proposed library were discussed. The majority of members agreed to subscribe to it, and also to donate books for circulation in the institute. An acknowledgment of a parcel of clothing was received from Hastings, and another is to be forwarded this month.
Silverdale. —A report of the recent federation meeting was given by Mrs. McRae, and a parcel of clothing was given to Sister Faithful for distribution. A competition was won by Mrs. Bartholomew
