MOTOR-CYCLE RACING.
TOURIST TROPHY EVENT. FIXTURE FOR TO-DAY. The first New Zealand Tourist Trophy motor-cycle race will be held over a 6J miles circuit at Ostend, Waiheke Island, today. The event, which has been organised by the Sports Motor-Cycle Club, by permission of the New Zealand AutoCycle Union, has attracted a large number of entries. Many of the leading riders in Auckland and the country districts have prepared machines for the race, and an average speed of 60 miles an hour is expected over the whole distance of about 150 miles. The course chosen is by no meanseasy, and should test fully the capabilities of the competitors. For the most part the surface is good, but there is one section where slow speeds are essential in the interests of safety. If the race proves a success, it is proposed to make it an annual event. In practice, several of the competitors have done some very fast laps, touching over 70 miles an hour in places, and the race should be keenly contested.
