HOTEL OVERHEAD COSTS.
BURDEN ON LICENSEES.
ILLICIT TRADING REPORTED.

Monday., ; That exorbitant goodwills or Rentals were causing licensees to resort to illicit trading and that unless reductions were made there would be more frequent breaches were arguments placed before the Licensing Committee by Inspector Cummins to-day. Tho committee endorsed the points and called for a remedy by all interested persons.
Inspector Cummins said there had been a large increase in convictions, which ho considered were due to overhead charges in somo hotels, compelling licensees to resort to after-hour trading to meet their obligations. In some cases where licensees were obeying the law, it was only & matter of time when they would lose everything.
