THE FARMERS' MARKET.
Sir,— Surely the advocates of "Buy Now Zealand goods first" have not thought to the bottom of the problem of our own unemployment, and arc putting first things second and second things first. I am not unmindful of the horrors of unemployment »• Ibe " tics • 1 am . deeply involved myself in financial worries; but surely wo do more good to New Zealand and more in the cause of aiding unemployment in this country in the long run by buying 111 a market wl;ere we sell 90 per cent, of our products, than in one that takes no more than the remainder. Many people apparently suppose the local market for produce to be of importance, it is not. Local consumption is a bagatelle. If it were our one market production would shrink 90 per cent, and our urban population in like degree. Perhaps this may come about; there is a silver lining to the darkest cloud. Ajax.
