OBITUARY.
MR. G. Y. CANTON. Work of great value to the fire brigade system of New Zealand was done by the late Mr. George Young Canton, for some years foreman of the Henderson Town Board staff, who died yesterday morning after a long illness, at the age of 65. Mr. Canton, who was born in Nelson, but whose work took him over all parts of Now Zealand, took a keen interest nil his life in volunteer fire brigade work. He formed brigades at Carterton, Hawern, Greytown and Morrinsville, nnd was a member of the Taumarunui, Te Kuiti and Palmerston North fire brigades in addition. He was a holder of the gold star medal, with two bars, awarded to firemen of 25 years' service. Some years ago, he was elected president of the Accident Association of the United Fire Brigades. The late Mr. Canton was a prominent bowler nnd was the founder of the Henderson Club. He leaves a widow, four sons and a daughter.
MRS. MARGARET PATEIISON. [from our own correspondent. ] HUNTLY, Sutulny. The death occurred at her Lite residence at Huntly West on Friday of Mrs. Margaret Paterson, aged 61 years. Mrs. Paterson was born in England and in her youth migrated to Australia and settled in New South Wales. Then she came to New Zealand and lived in Brunner, South Island, for a few years before coming to Huntly where she had resided for 35 years. Mrs. Paterson is survived by two daughters and three sons, Mrs. R. Wilson and Mrs. Rodgers and Messrs. Allen, James and Bert Paterson. The interment took place to-day at the Kimihia Cemetery and, was largely attended. The Rev, Bush-King read the burial service at the graveside.
