THEFT OF POULTRY.
OFFENCE AT MOUNT ALBERT.
A charge of stealing five fowls and a rooster, the property of Henry Samuel Beale, was admitted l>y Victor Forsyth, labourer, aged 32, in the Police Court on Saturday. Detective-Sergeant. Kelly stated that while Detective Allan was patrolling Gladstone Road, Mount Albert, late at night on May 23, in a police car, he saw accused run across the road with a sack on his Shoulders, and lie down in the grass. The detective approached him and found lie had in the sack the poultry, which was later found to belong to Beale. There bad been several complaints of fowl-stealing in the Mount Albert district recently. Mr. Dickson, who appeared for accused, said that his client was under the influence of liquor at the time of the offence. He had formerly been foreman for a large construction company, but had been unemployed for some time. He had had a distinguished war service, but his health had been affected by the war. Accused was fined £2 and a prohibition order was made against him.
