AUSTRALIAN FOOTWEAR.
COMPLAINT OF DUMPING. STEPS TO MEET POSITION. Reference to the dumping of Australian footwear upon the New Zealand market was made at a meeting of the"' general committee of the Auckland Manufacturers' Association yesterday. Mr. C. W. Cole saic inquiries had been made and it was fotind that a small shipment of footwear had arrived in Auckland. The articles, were sold at prices which could not possibly represent the cost of manufacture.
In reply to a question by the president, Mr. S. Takle, as to what could be done in the matter, Mr. Cole said he was not aware of the extent of the legislation regarding dumping. New Zealand's Trade Commissioner in Australia might take the matter up. The secretary, Mr. J. Findlay, said the Customs Department had promised to watch the position. Mr. J. A. C. Allum said the association should give active support to the Boot Manufacturers' Association.
It was decided to support the association and to arrange that the Minister of Customs should be approached.
