POLICE COURT NEWS.

THEFT FROM ROOM MATE. LABOURER SENT TO PRISON. The theft of an overcoat, a suitcase and contents and a sum of money, of a total value of £9 6s, was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by William Patrick O'Donnell, aged 53, labourer.

Detective-Sergeant Kelly said accused was staying in a boardinghouse in Huntly and robbed a room mate. He was later traced to a hotel in the town, where he was booked under the name of " Dr. Martin." When interviewed by constables lie admitted the offence. He had been in a good deal of trouble in the past. The magistrate, Mr. F. K. Hunt, sentenced O'Donneli to six months' imprisonment. " We du not know anything about accused at present except that he was found at 1.35 a.m. on Sunday with allegedly stolen goods under his coat," said Mr. Kelly, when John Thomas Harold Jones, aged' 22, stonemason, was charged with stealing sundry articles of a total value of 15s lOd. ' An alternative charge of receiving stolen properly was also preferred. Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded for a week on bail of £IOO. A week's remand was also granted in the ease in which two labourers, Reginald W'altei I'aiker, aged 17. and Richard Knightly Hodder, aged 18. were jointly chanted with breaking and entering, by day, lhe house of Robert Patterson Cib son, Bright Street, and stealing cigarettevalued a' CI 15s 3d. No request, was made for bail and the magistrate directed that bnt 11 accused should be kept apart from the other prisoners while on remand.
