ELAM SCHOOL OF ART.
MASTER APPOINTED. The position of art maslei at. the Elan) School of Art, at present temporarily filled by Mr. John Weeks, has been accepted by Mr Stephen l'\ Champ, A.It.C.A., of London, who will reach New Zealand by (lie Coriuthic about the beginning of October. Mr. Champ, who is 24 years of age. specialised in (he painting school of the Royal College of Art, South Kensington, and obtained bis diploma, in 1930. Since then ho has taken a post-graduate course for art teachers at the Royal College of Art, under Mr. Dudley Heath. Apart from work in the painting school, he has taken keen interest in design and has practised etching ana aquatint, wood-engrav-ing, wood block printing, textile printing and pottery. He also has studied illuminating anr) lettering, and has executed commissions for manuscripts and memorial brasses.
After four years of training at the Royal College 'of Art, Mr. Champ gained experience of teaching at the Eastbourne Softool of Art, the Polytechnic and at Hammersmith.
